Every once in awhile we create a quilt that will always have a soft spot in our hearts. This is mine. I wanted to make a quilt for my daughter, Abby. One she would love and cherish. She may not cherish it yet but she does love it.
The pickle dish pattern with the flowered appliqué border was a challenging project for me when I started it many years ago. So I enlisted the help of my Mother and Mother-in-Law, both quilters. My Mother-in-Law and I worked on the paper pieced pickle dishes. And the appliqué borders were done by my Mother and me. After we assembled the quilt, I hand quilted it. With their help, we made a quilt my daughter and their granddaughter will enjoy for many years to come.
To me, this quilt embodies many aspects of quilting. Not just the different techniques used in the actual quilt but the spirit of three women working together to create a quilt that will be enjoyed for many years to come. But isn’t that what quilting does…binds us together from one generation to the next and the next.
